Mechanical Engineer

As a mechanical engineer at Universal Tool and Engineering, responsibilities will include designing tool and die sets for CNC tube bending machines, end formers, punch machines, stamping dies, and various tooling and machine components. It is required to interact and work with the production supervisor, shop foreman, technicians, and machinists. Communicating with sales representatives and customers is also a vital component in producing the correct tooling for the customer. There are times when multiple projects will be active at one time and focus will need to be changed from one project to another. Occasionally the mechanical engineer will be required to take measurements off machines to produce a tooling design or reverse engineer a customer’s tooling. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, hardworking, determined, and mechanically inclined.

Responsibilities:

Design toolsets using SolidWorks

  • Using information from the purchase order
  • Using part drawings
  • Using part models
  • Verifying tooling will make the desired part by integrating the part to the tooling model

Create floorplans for work cells using DraftSight or SolidWorks

  • Taking existing floorplans of machines and bringing them all together to create a 2D layout for the customer to see how it will fit in their facility.

Design various machine parts

  • Customers may break parts on machines that cause them to not be operational and look to UTE to get the part to them as soon as possible. We have various part files unrelated to tooling that we are able to produce in house to help the customer. Occasionally we have to come up with the design to produce the part.• Designing adapters for new motors to replace old motors that have different mating patterns.
  • Designing parts to completely rebuild a machine.
  • Convert part files provided by customers to be produced on our machines.
  • Run simulation of parts using BendPro offline software.
  • Place customer parts in a tooling assembly to verify interferences or special tooling design prior to submitting a quote to a customer.

Quote tooling

  • Quote tooling based on customer specific request by providing OD, CLR, GRIP, and Wall.
  • Quote tooling based on customer part drawing or solid model.
  • Quote machines
  • Quote machine based on customer or salesman specific request
  • Quote machine based on material size, part drawing, and/or solid model

Working with customers and salesmen to provide the correct or desired tooling.
Work directly with customer to produce customized tooling.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ years in manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years Solidworks experience.
  • Experience with tool and dies preferred.
  • Experience with CNC machining equipment.
  • Experience designing parts to be made by CNC machines.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

Sales Engineer/Inside Sales

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with proven presentation skills and demonstrate effective sales methods. As a Sales Engineer/Inside Sales, you will be focused on developing new business within an assigned territory as well as retaining and developing business with existing customers. You will build excellent client relationships and drive sales results. Use your sales expertise to help our customers realize their business goals with product solutions you're proud to deliver. Autonomy, drive, and desire to win are paramount. We are looking for someone to take ownership of the entire sales cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prospect, develop, and close new business with new and existing customers
  • Meet or exceed annual sales targets within assigned territory and accounts
  • Regularly travel to perform customer consultations to determine needs and solutions, and obtain detailed information for estimates and proposals
  • Maintain involvement on turn-key projects, demonstrations, and other related customer projects to meet deadlines and budgets
  • Possess and maintain an in-depth knowledge of machine tool industry and product lines presented by the company
  • Utilize CRM for all prospecting and customer activities

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in Engineering or Business or equivalent work experience
  • Previous outside sales experience with manufactured equipment is preferred
  • Strong professional communication and presentation skills
  • Innovative approach to problem-solving and the ability to thrive in a results-based environment
  • Effective closer
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude required
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office as well as experience in using CRM software
  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable automobile transportation, and current auto insurance
